In the Module 3 Case, you will write Chapter 3 of your thesis-style paper – relating to the Political Frame. Using specific examples of “politics” (i.e., the “jungle”) as defined by Bolman and Deal, you will use the Political Frame as a lens through which you will analyze the downfall of Walt Disney Company CEO Michael Eisner.
Begin the Module 3 Case by visiting the Walt Disney Company website:
The Walt Disney Company. (2014). Retrieved on May 8, 2014 from http://thewaltdisneycompany.com/
The following articles provide a good starting point concerning former CEO Eisner’s tenure with the Walt Disney Company:
White, D. (2005, Oct 01). When Mickey finally turned on his master. Michael Eisner’s reign at Disney is over. Dominic White reports. The Daily Telegraph. Retrieved from Proquest.
Consider Michael Karpeles’ article relating to politics in the Disney boardroom:
Karpeles, M. D. (2005). Boardroom lessons from the Disney/Ovitz case. Corporate Board, 26(155), 6-10. Retrieved on June 10, 2014 from EBSCO – Business Source Complete.
Finally, read the following case study:
Forbes, W., & Watson, R. (n.d.). Destructive corporate leadership and board loyalty bias: A case study of Michael Eisner’s long tenure at Disney Corporation. City University London. Retrieved on June 10, 2014 from http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/56372/2A_Forbes.pdf
Case Assignment
After you have reviewed the contents of the Walt Disney Company website, completed the above readings and those provided at the Background page of Module 3, and performed additional research from the library and the internet, write a 6- to 7-page paper in which you do the following:
Using the following five assumptions of the Political Frame, complete an in-depth assessment of the Walt Disney Company:
Organizations are coalitions of diverse individuals and interest groups.
There are enduring differences among coalition members in values, beliefs, information, interests, and perceptions of reality.
Most important decisions involve allocating scarce resources—who gets what.
Scarce resources and enduring differences make conflict central to organizational dynamics and underline power as the most important asset.
Goals and decisions emerge from bargaining, negotiation, and jockeying for position among competing stakeholders.
Keys to the Assignment
The key aspects of this assignment that are to be covered in your 6- to 7-page paper include the following:
Using Bolman and Deal’s Political Frame, analyze the political behaviors surrounding the departure of Disney CEO Michael Eisner. Specifically, address the following:
Briefly identify and discuss the key political forces that led to Eisner’s downfall.
How does the “Jungle” metaphor apply to the Eisner case?
Describe the coalitions that formed at Disney. Then, identify those salient interests that caused the division between coalitions, and how these differences were ultimately resolved.
Discuss the Eisner case study in the context of two or three of Bolman and Deal’s Political Frame assumptions included above. How do the assumptions you’ve chosen inform what happened in the Michael Eisner case?
Briefly comment on the significance of the “Toxic Triangle” (see Figure 1 of Forbes & Watson’s case study about Eisner’s departure), and discuss how this model informs the Eisner case study.
The background readings will not give you all the answers to the Case. Therefore, you are required to perform some research in the library, and use a minimum of 4 scholarly sources from the library to support and justify your understanding of the case.
Your paper must demonstrate evidence of critical thinking (if you need tips on critical thinking, http://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/college-and-university-students/799 is an excellent resource). Don’t simply restate facts – instead, be sure to interpret the facts you have accumulated from your research.
Remember that the Module 4 Case will also serve as Chapter 4 of your session-long thesis-style paper.
Assignment Expectations
Your paper will be evaluated using the following five (5) criteria:
Assignment-Driven Criteria: Does the paper fully address all Keys to the Assignment? Are the concepts behind the Keys to the Assignment addressed accurately and precisely using sound logic? Does the paper meet minimum length requirements?
Critical thinking: Does the paper demonstrate graduate-level analysis, in which information derived from multiple sources, expert opinions, and assumptions has been critically evaluated and synthesized in the formulation of a logical set of conclusions? Does the paper address the topic with sufficient depth of discussion and analysis?
Business Writing: Is the paper well-written (clear, developed logically, and well-organized)? Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work? Are section headings included in all papers? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding to the Keys to the Assignment, or is justification/support instead conveyed through excessive use of direct quotations?
Effective Use of Information (Information Literacy): Does the paper demonstrate effective research, as evidenced by student’s use of relevant and quality sources? Do additional sources used in paper provide strong support for conclusions drawn, and do they help in shaping the overall paper?
Citing Sources: Does the student demonstrate understanding of APA Style of referencing, by inclusion of proper end references and in-text citations (for paraphrased text and direct quotations) as appropriate? Have all sources (e.g., references used from the Background page, the assignment readings, and outside research) been included, and are these properly cited? Have all end references been included within the body of the paper as in-text citations?

DIMENSIONS OF CULTURE In this Module 2 SLP assignment, you will be measuring you

DIMENSIONS OF CULTURE
In this Module 2 SLP assignment, you will be measuring your personal cultural values and comparing them to Hofstede’s dimensions of culture for the culture in which you live. Please start by filling out the following self-assessment: CVSCALE: The Five-Dimensional Measure of Personal Cultural Values. After completing the self-assessment above, address the following in your 2 full page paper (excluding title and references pages) and reflect on the following questions:
What did the CVSCALE reveal about your cultural values?
How does this compare to your own country’s values, according to Hofstede’s research?
What other insights about cultural values have you gained from this questionnaire, the readings, and other aspects of the course so far that will be valuable to you in leading across different cultures?
SLP Assignment Expectations
The format for this SLP is less formal than academic papers (e.g., you can use the first person), but you should include headings to organize your thoughts and guide the reader. Cite all sources where you are using information, data, or text from an outside source (including assessments).
The SLP should be thoughtful and insightful, integrating results and learnings from the assessment with other activities in the module and course.
Your SLP paper must be at least 2 full pages (Excluding Title and References Pages) in length.
Your SLP should be edited and error-free.
Be sure that you incorporate 2 scholarly sources found in the Assignment, Materials and Bibliography, Required and Optional reading list, and from the Background page into your written analysis.
Be sure that you properly cite all sources used in your paper (APA Style) in-text and in your end referencing.
I attached the CVSCALE…

Module 2: Dimensions of Culture
Discussion: Leading and Motivating a Multicultural Workforce
The material in this module compels us to understand that traditional motivators are culture bound and that what works in our own culture may not be the best motivator in another country. Once again, this Discussion is broken into weekly topics. You must participate in both topics to receive full credit.
Week 1
Describe a specific reward that motivates you. How does that type of reward appeal to your values as a member of an individualist society? Would this reward be as effective at motivating workers in a collectivist culture? Why or why not?
Choose one of the following leadership functions and contrast how these functions would most effectively be carried out according to one of Hofstede’s dimensions (your choice). In responding to another student’s post, examine the same leadership function within a culture displaying another of Hofstede’s dimensions.
Suggested leadership functions:
Recruiting new talent
Retaining valued employees, customers, or clients
Decision-making processes
Measuring performance
Correcting performance problems
Determining organizational structure
Resolving conflict
Identifying your own leadership function

Personal Leadership Application (PLA) (1,000 – 1,500 words maximum)
Identify a challenge or opportunity for learning and growth related to your own personal leadership that you are presently facing in your workplace. If you are not working, you could consider your family context (i.e. nuclear or extended), or an organization with which you’re affiliated (i.e. community group), among others. Then, turn your gaze inward to better understand your role in it. What is most important is that the issue is, indeed, personal and immediate—something that you can work on internally, (i.e. alone). This is not a systems issue, or an organizational change project at this point—we will come to those later. Rather, it is a situation that you can improve by applying the leadership skills and knowledge that you will acquire this term. This is what we call a personal leadership application (PLA).
For the purpose of this PLA paper, it is important that you demonstrate reflective openness to a challenge/opportunity that can be shifted by applying your personal learning. As Senge (2006) suggested, “reflective openness leads to looking inward, allowing our conversations to make us more aware of the biases and limitations in our own thinking, and how our thinking and actions contribute to problems” (p. 261). Short’s (1998) notion of “learning from inside-out” (p. 35) also supports this. Past experience has shown that the issues are as diverse as the learners in the program and often involve observing yourself in relationship with others. Please observe yourself with a compassionate desire to learn and improve your personal mastery, not with a self-critical or judgmental eye.
In selecting your issue, ask yourself, does this PLA pertain to my quest for personal mastery? To further ground this in the literature, recall Senge’s (2006) suggestion that to view the enemy or the problem as being out there is itself problematic (pp. 17-26). With this in mind, choose a situation or pattern that impacts on you personally. What can change in this situation as a result of a change in your thinking, a change of your behaviours, your acquisition of knowledge, and/or your interactions with others? Ensure your PLA is small enough in focus that when the term is over, you will have a fresh perspective on the issue and new skills with which to implement new leadership behaviours in your workplace or other context you identified.
You may find the following questions helpful in framing your PLA.
What is the challenge/opportunity as you see it?
What role have you played in this challenge/opportunity? What roles have you not played?
In what ways, if any, is this PLA opportunity similar to past situations (i.e., do you see a pattern?)
What is your action plan? (i.e., describe what you will do in clear behavioural terms to actively work on this PLA during the first term).
Which course readings clarified your PLA for you? Why?
What might be the potential impact of your new actions on you, others, and organization/system?
What will others see, hear, and experience you doing in the online residency that will demonstrate that you are working on this PLA?
Please see Assignment 4: Self in Systems Analysis for more information on how you will reflect on your learning and growth related to this PLA toward the end of the term.
You will be asked to give a brief, oral summary of your PLA in your Advisee Team on the first day of the online residency.
Write this paper in the first person and follow the Assessment Criteria for Evidence-Based Argumentation.
Attach as Appendices the following:
Appendix A: Personal and Professional Vision (double spaced, maximum 300 words)
A leadership vision can shape your current and future life by articulating an image of the future you want to create. This is an opportunity to create a compelling personal and professional vision (or refine one that you have already written). This vision will be an integral part of managing your leadership and learning in this program and beyond. Your vision may or may not be deeply connected to your cultural identity or your life experiences in a particular community. Please write a summative statement (25 – 50 words) of your vision that will provide you with both a beacon and anchor for your personal and professional growth. Then include a deeper narrative of 200 – 250 words describing in more detail this image you wish to create for your future. You can refer to your activity 3.2.
Appendix B: Personal Values Grid (maximum two page chart)
Identify two to five core values that guide your life and career as a leader. Again, these values may or may not be drawn from your cultural identity or personal location. Then create a table that includes your meaning or definition of the value, why it is important to you, and how it will be reflected in your behaviour (actions that are observable to others). You may wish to present these in a chart such as the one included in activity 3.2. Pay particular attention to the related behaviours column, being sure to include observable behaviours which represent actions associated with living your values. For helpful suggestions that will facilitate identifying key values and operationalizing them, see Brown, 2018, pp. 188-197, 211; Kouzes & Posner, 2012, pp. 68-72.
Appendix C: Participation and Contribution Log
Your in-person and online participation will be assessed by your faculty advisor at the end of the term. Your participation and specific contributions reflect your ability to both enhance your learning and enable the learning of others. The aim of this activity is for you to take stock of your participation and contribution personally. Use the Participation and Contribution Log (Assignment 1) found in the Assessment Resources folder.
For Assignment 1, please submit one document which includes a title page for your assignment followed by your PLA essay, reference list and appendices. Note: for your ease of reference you can look at the Student Self-Assessment Assignments Checklists, which highlight key elements of each assignment and associated competencies.
Upload your Assignment 1 to the dropbox provided by the due date listed in the Activities Schedule. This will give you practice in using dropboxes as they are used for most course assignments.
Your faculty advisor will upload formative feedback on your assignment 1 to the assignment dropbox by the Saturday before the online residency begins.

This is my team submitted the team charter that I uplouded. Post some thoughts you have about the assignment and your team process. What challenges will there be to successfully completing the project? This work is a discussion and there is no need to write a whole professional article.
Due to our team having 7 people and 2 people being on the basketball team in our university, we adjusted the time many times and we finished was relatively smooth in the end.

The concept of leadership as a “vocation” greatly distinguishes leadership from a job, career, or what one simply does for a living. A vocation can be thought of as one’s calling. Vocation is often associated with the clergy or missionaries who feel called by a higher power to fulfill a specific purpose. Vocation is also a concept associated with careers like teachers, emergency responders, doctors, or other health care professionals who feel strongly compelled to dedicate their own lives to improving the lives of those whom they serve. Consider your own view of leadership. Discuss how this understanding of leadership as a vocation informs your understanding of the personal and moral commitments required of leaders. If leadership is not a job, but a calling, discuss the responsibilities leaders have towards their position, their organization, and their followers.

Leadership theories have implications for the application and relative importanc

Leadership theories have implications for the application and relative importance of other skills such as social and emotional intelligence, change management, and communication skills.
For example, change management and communication skills in the practical application of transactional leadership theory will take a different form than the application of change management and communication skills in the practice of transformational leadership. Similarly, the role and type of authority and power vary among different leadership styles.
For this week’s assignment, respond to the following questions:
Which leadership theory can best support your improvement process (capstone project)? (Note my capstone project is military service members and the difficulties with the military retirement process
How might your mind-set, relationships, and practices need to shift for you to facilitate the desired change?
Include in your discussion the implications of the theory in terms of the social and emotional intelligence, change management, and/or communication skills that will be necessary to engage in practical application of the theory.
Explain the type of authority and power (decision-making capacity, position power, power to influence, knowledge power, and so on) implied or stated by your leadership theory.
