In this paper students must develop a culturagram to promote the social work student’s understanding, engagement, and intervention planning with an immigrant/refugee family.
The purpose of this assignment is for the student to demonstrate in-depth understanding of a family’s cultural background–students are encouraged to visit the NASW Code of Ethics and review the Core Value that addresses Cultural Competence. The student is expected to assess a family in the following 11 areas:
1. Reasons for immigrating
2. Legal status
3. Length of time in the United States
4. Language spoken at home and in the community
5. Health access and beliefs
6. Impact of crisis/traumatic events in the past and present
7. Contact with cultural institutions and holidays, food, and dress
8. Past and current experiences with racism, discrimination, and bias
9. Values about education and work
10. Family values involving gender, age, myths, and rules
11. The student’s challenges and difficulties dealing with her/his bias. The student’s struggles understanding the uniqueness of the immigrant/refugee family and establishing trust.
12. The student must include on the paper the template for the culturagram. The student must include a description of each of the 10 areas of at least 50 words.
13. Students are required to utilize the APA (American Psychological Association) format for all written materials and assignments. The assignment must meet a minimum of five (5) narrative pages, not including the title or reference pages. The student must also include a minimum of five (5) scholarly references from professional literature sources to support this assignment.

The Redmond Child Protective Services wants to compare the effectiveness of two programs provided to parents who were identified as being at risk for abusing or neglecting their children. The parents either participated in a 10-week parenting course or 10 weeks of family therapy sessions. The evaluator compared 50 parents who participated in the parenting course and 45 parents who participated in the therapy program. The evaluator was looking at whether the parents were suspected of abuse or neglect one year after completing services (that is, there was another report of abuse or neglect). The Redmond local government is hesitant to invest in family therapy, as it is a much costlier service than a parenting class.
Assignment Instructions
For this assignment:
Review the Unit 6 Dataset, given in the resources, which includes 95 cases. The two variables are types of intervention program (parenting classes or family therapy) and subsequent status in the child welfare system (no suspicion of abuse or neglect or suspicion of abuse or neglect).
Review the tutorial in this unit’s first study, which demonstrates chi-square test using a different scenario.
Now, complete the following in a one-page, APA-formatted paper:
Conduct a chi-square test on the dataset to determine if one program had better outcomes than the others. Include a copy of SPSS output.
Provide the result of the statistical analysis. Was there a statistical significant difference between the two programs?
Write a narrative explaining the implications of the findings for future programming and funding priorities. What are the potential limitations of the program evaluation results?
